Everyone knows Dory from Finding Nemo. Shes the silly fish that has a short attention span and is constantly forgetting everything. While we think it is cute in a Disney movie, it is an everyday reality for the nearly 44 million people with Dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. According to the Alzheimer’s Association Alzheimer’s is “a type of dementia that causes problems with memory, thinking and behavior. Symptoms usually develop slowly and get worse over time, becoming severe enough to interfere with daily tasks.” The disease was not well known until more recently, it was though that people were forgetful due to age not from a disease. Even now it is not understood why people end up with dementia and there is not a cure.

Because there is not a cure many companies have started creating purple merchandise to raise money for research and funding for a cure. These companies include Lokai and The Purple Elephant and many more. Alzheimer’s and dementia is a large problem that many tend to not address because you will not directly die from the disease.
